During the prenatal period, physical and hormonal changes occur, which can affect the musculoskeletal system. These changes include altered posture, shortened muscles, muscle imbalances, as well as changes in mobility and bone alignment.Â
During the postpartum phase, changing hormone levels combined with physical changes after delivery may also result in musculoskeletal concerns, such as excessive joint mobility, muscle imbalances, weakness of the core stabilizers and changed spine mobility and function. Â

The goal of prenatal & postpartum physical therapy is to address spinal and pelvic joint dysfunction, teach exercises to help muscle weakness and imbalance, as well as provide guidance and instruction related to modification of exercises that may be difficult during these phases of life.Â
